A turning point to having a healthier relationship with my body.
Aiyana recently turned 22 months old and my postpartum body is NOT where I expected it to be. I gained about 80 lbs during my pregnancy and I’m still 20 pounds from my postpartum weight.
FOR THE FIRST FEW MONTHS POSTPARTUM, I LOVED MY BODY.
For the first few months #postpartum, I LOVED my body. I was amazed at what I accomplished by bringing this new life into the world. Unfortunately, I had seen too many images of women who “#snappedback” to being able to wear a 2 piece bikini only 4 months after giving birth!! I was an avid fitness buff for the last 10 years so I thought it would be easy for me to get back to my #goalweight.
But the process has been more challenging then I expected. I had a lot of pelvic pain until Aiyana turned one. Also because I wanted to breastfeed for at least a year, I was VERY aware of my milk production. My body was extremely sensitive to any caloric deficiencies. So both of these factors limited my ability to exercise and diet.
About a week ago, I found an old photo from 4 years ago. I was at my peak of physical fitness! And I realized even then, I still focused on my flaws. I’ve always had loose skin so I never had a tight stomach and my breasts were never perky...I could NEVER go braless. I had stretch marks in high school and the list could go on...
I NEEDED TO HAVE A HEALTHIER RELATIONSHIP WITH MY BODY...FLAWS AND ALL.
I realized that I needed to have a healthier relationship with my body...flaws and all. Especially now that I have a daughter!! I want her to appreciate her body and how it allows her to discover and explore the world, not judge it because it doesn’t look like someone celebrity on TV or some model in a magazine.
I declare that I love my body at every stage. She provides me with everything my spirit needs to enjoy this life journey. She is beautiful, she is extraordinary, she is what being a woman is all about. Enjoy your body and treasure her!!
